During 5 way manifold valve operation in different types of manifold valves the Low Pressure (LP) and High Pressure (HP) valves are open while the equalizing valves and the bleed valves are closed. However, it is critically important that the equalizing valve/ valves never be open while both block valves are open. If the process fluid is dangerously hot or radioactive, a combination of open equalizing and block valves will let that dangerous fluid reach the transmitter and manifold.

The purpose of the PTFE 5 way manifold valve manufacturers is to isolate or block the flow of fluid in the system so the fluid from upstream of the manifold does not reach other components of the system that are downstream. Then Teflon 2 way manifold valve bleed off or vent the remaining fluid from the system on the downstream side of the manifold.
